Review on the Samsung Galaxy Beam

Posted: July 26, 2010 in Samsung

Hi there! This is our 2nd review and will be another one of the best phones on the market currently, as you know the Samsung I8520, also known as Samsung Galaxy Beam, is truly worth reading about! Later on in this review, you’ll see some photos of this amazing device along with some test photographs I’ve taken while testing it. Here’s an additional info, this is my 1st ever contact with an Android OS other than iPhone OS and Blackberry OS, so I’m really hoping the Android will surprise me with something special about itself.

I’ll bring you through the process in which i removed the phone from the box to the test I done on it, there are a few features which are worth the mention and I will be going through it soon so for now, enjoy the thrill of unboxing a new Samsung Galaxy Beam right from its box!

while removing the phone from the box, its relatively simple but the very 1st negative thing about the phone the method to remove the back casing to slot in your Sim card, MicroSD card and battery is that you will have to force the case open and clip it back in just like a cheap toy. In my opinion, long run the catch will get damaged and you will see problems keeping the battery case on. Well, that’s just what I think.

The very 1st feature I was so eager to try out (and i know everyone is), was the projector function. Even without using the User Manual, i was able to find the function in the Main menu. What is more cool was that you could even activate it from Holding on to a button by the side of the phone! The projection image is not limited to your images or videos stored in the memory card but you could even project the normal GUI (Graphical User Interface). That is like using a laptop on your mobile phone. One more point to the projection feature is that you could even do drawing on any GUI surface on the phone. If you noticed, there is a tread roller on the top left for easy access to adjust the focus when you are projecting your image.

Next I decided to test was the messaging feature, yes i know every phone is able to send an SMS but one thing many of you out there didn’t know is that Android OS has Swype! not sure what does Swype do?

Read this :

Swype provides a faster and easier way to input text on any screen. With one continuous finger or stylus motion across the screen keyboard, the patented technology enables users to input words faster and easier than other data input methods—at over 40 words per minute. The application is designed to work across a variety of devices such as phones, tablets, game consoles, kiosks, televisions, virtual screens and more.

what is swype?

Simply Trace a Path

The word “quick” was generated from tracing the path shown above in a fraction of a second, by roughly aiming to pass through the letters of the word. A key advantage to Swype is that there is no need to be very accurate, enabling very rapid text entry.

Done? Let’s move on to the LCD Display, it is about 480 x 800 pixels, 3.7 inches. It has Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors which simply means Fantastic Graphic Display and a very sensitive touchscreen too! The main difference i could tell from other mainstream phones is that the Super AMOLED screen has pixels so closely packed together that I could not even see the pixels if I brought it close to my eye. That’s how detailed an image could get on the LCD.

The rear camera has an awesome 5MP power packed into this little smartphone and its pretty good for a mobile phone of this era. Within the camera application, you will notice that you are able to use the Smile, Face and Blink detection. It even has the anti-shake feature that could ensure photos taken will not get blurred up by motion. Images and videos taken from the phone itself were just as great when displaying it through the Projector. It’s extremely cool to be able to watch movie on your smartphone but to be able to project it out and have DNSe (Digital Natural Sound Engine) enabled speakers are just complimenting each other.

To conclude, my 1st experience with the Android OS Samsung Galaxy Beam was a fun and enjoyable bit when i was watching a short clip using the projector capabilities! I was not satisfied with the design of the back casing as it does not provide a good catch to lock the back case down.

The iPhone 4 Review.

Posted: July 5, 2010 in Apple, Blog News

So it’s finally time for us to post our review on the iPhone 4! Though I’ve experienced many cool and new functions on the iPhone 4, I will only comment on some which were more prominent to me. If you must know, I’m a Blackberry user who has come to love the iPhone too!

After using the iPhone for about 3 days, I’ve come to realize that it’s the BEST phone I have ever tested! The first thing I noticed on the iPhone 4 was the incredible High-Definition Display. On top of that, I took a little video while testing the video capabilities and it was beautiful. Just to remind you, it’s 720p 30 fps video on the iPhone 4. WOW! During the 3 days I used the iPhone, with all 3 carriers (Singtel, Starhub & M1), there wasn’t any antenna issue!

I’ve taken some photos with the 5 Mega Pixel camera and it rocks! Although it is nothing new to a mobile industry, it has a very good user interface. The auto-focus, touch-focus and the flash LED works like a charm together, creating any of my shots looking like a pro. For a guy with a big hand like mine, the iPhone 4 melts into my palm perfectly, the touch is smooth and it looks slick and techy, I wouldn’t mind having it all to myself, MY PRECIOUS……

Another great stuff I believe I MUST mention was the battery life of the iPhone 4, I’ve used an iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS and trust me, the battery lifespan on both the iPhones can NEVER be compared to the latest iPhone 4! I did a little stress test on the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 3GS battery life by playing games, listening to music and watching videos for about the same period of time on both iDevices. And the iPhone 4 won by 2 folds!

For those tech-savvy people and those who are not, the iPhone 4 comes with a 1 GHz Apple A4 processor complimented with 512MB RAM which is also used in the Apple iPad. The way the iPhone 4 response to every app opening, running in Multi-tasking state or even when the safari hasn’t loaded up completely, is astonishing! The iPhone 4 doesn’t ‘lag’ at all, it is able to maintain it’s cool and provide the best user experience.

FaceTime is a cool feature that should have been able to be made via 3G signal instead of WiFi only and not limited to another iPhone 4. I was disappointed on that note and hopefully Apple can do something about that part. It was really cool to test an iPhone with video call ability as the predecessors could not.

To sum it all up, I would recommend anyone who is currently on the iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G or even the iPhone 3GS to go and get the iPhone 4! It IS the next generation mobile phone on the market! Those who have thoughts about changing their phone and trying out an iPhone, should go for the iPhone 4. If you think everyone is already having the iPhone and you don’t want to join the crowd, you are thinking the wrong way. The reason why you see so many people having the iPhone is simply because it’s the best phone out there!

Here are the Pros and Cons I’ve noticed.

Pros:

  • Marvelous Retinal Display of  640 x 960 pixels.
  • HD video recording.
  • 5MP, Touch-Focus and LED Flash camera.
  • 1 GHz Apple A4 processor complimented with 512MB RAM
  • Active noise cancellation with dedicated Mic.

Cons:

  • FaceTime only works with WiFi and only to another iPhone 4.
  • Can not Bluetooth files to other mobile phones.
  • Memory can not be expanded. limited to 16/32GB.

The Apple Iphone 4!

The newly released, sophisticated Apple iPhone 4 that comes with an array of upgraded and new technology will be reviewed by the MobileSquare Team. Wifi Facetime is the new feature on the iPhone 4 which prove to be of excellent quality and real-time accuracy. With the new 5X digital zoom function, Apple does listen to the consumers’ view-point. Being curious, we decided to cut our precious M1 and Starhub sim card and turn them into micro sim for the antenna testing, the WIFI Facetime testing and other cool functions. To allow better and accurate review from the MobileSquare Team, we will be testing the iPhone 4 for a few days, so watch out for this blog with the upcoming full review!  Attached are the antenna testing images together with the box and accessories.
